James Nelson has been in combat with varying forms of epilepsy for much of his adult life.  Undeterred, in this biographical account he takes an opportunity to educate an audience on what is a particularly misunderstood and under-represented neurological condition in a positively comical yet painstaking way.

James’s upbeat and laidback approach to epilepsy has been his coping mechanism for dealing with issues generated by this occasionally hopeless condition. Whilst still recognising the serious aspect of epilepsy, and in no way discrediting anyone with different approaches, Small Malcolm Grows Up is a compelling, off-centre read for adolescent and adult audiences and commended by an award-winning author. James has additionally featured on two BBC Radio Bristol transmissions in which he was able to talk freely about the book, his motivation and his complex-partial / focal seizures in more general.

As for the title of the book.. it’s tragicomic or perhaps genius. You’ll need to read it to decide.
